Fossils

In the Songshu-Gully and Nankangzhuang-Village sections the lower part of the formation yields spinicaudatans such as Tielingia reticulata, T. multicostata and T. cuizhenbuensis; Ostracods as represented by Cetacella sp., Darwinula changxinensis, D. giganinpudica, D. yangshulingensis, D. submagna and D. contracta; while its upper part yields such spinicaudatan fossils as Eosestheria brevis, E. cf. elliptica, E. cf. chii and E. cf. linjiangensis. To the north of Qiaotou area of Dadianzi Township the formation yields plant fossils as represented by Conipteris hymenophylloides, in addition to a small amount of bivalve and Gastropod fossils.

Age

The biotic fossil paragenetic association in the Nankangzhuang Fm is more or less exceptional, and in accordance with its characteristics it should be older than the age of the Rehe fauna, but its exact age still awaits further investigations and study. Schematic strat column in the previous "red Chinese Lexicon" had implied that the Nankangzhuang Fm spanned late-Middle Jurassic through mid-Tithonian.
